Turn service on or off for Google Workspace

Google Workspace provides various services to users, such as Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Meet, and more. As a Google Workspace administrator, you can turn services on or off for users in your organization based on their needs and roles.

Organizational units are the easiest way to turn service on or off for specific users. For example, you want only your Marketing team to use YouTube. Create one organizational unit for Marketing and another for everyone else. Then, turn YouTube on for Marketing and turn it off for the others.

Steps to turn on or off Google service:

  1. Sign in to your Google Workspace Admin Console.
  2. From the dashboard, click on Apps >> Google Workspace >> Service status.

   3.   Select the organization that you want to service turn it on or off.

   4.   Scroll down the list of services and find the service you want to turn on or off.

  •        If the Service status is set to Inherited and you want to keep the updated setting, even if the parent setting changes, click Override.
  •       If the Service status is set to Overridden, either click Inherit to revert to the same setting as its parent, or click Save to keep the new setting, even if the parent setting changes.

Customize access using access groups

If you already use organizational units to control other settings for users, you might instead want to control service access using groups. This lets you control access for any group of users no matter what your organizational structure.

  1. Sign in to your Google Workspace Admin Console.
  2. From the dashboard, click on Apps >> Google Workspace >> Service status.
  3. Select the Group that you want to service turn it on or off.

   4.   Scroll down the list of services and find the service you want to turn on or off.

   5.   Click on “Save”.

Note: Changes can take up to 24 hours but typically happen more quickly.
