How to create an approved senders list?

Approved senders list

By default, Gmail scans all email messages for spam. When Gmail detects a spam message, the message is delivered to the recipient's spam folder. You can't turn off Gmail's spam scanning. However, you can use the Spam setting to create spam filters to customize Gmail's spam scanning behavior.

You can set up custom spam filters so that:

  • Messages from senders on an approved senders list aren't marked as spam.
  • Messages from senders in your domains aren't marked as spam.

Approved senders list→ Approved senders are trusted users that send email to your organization. Create an address list of approved senders so messages from these users bypass Gmail’s spam filters, and recipients can decide whether they are spam or not. Create the list with individual email addresses, or by adding an entire domain.

Steps to create an approved senders list:

  1. From the Admin console Home page, go to Apps > Google Workspace > Gmail > Spam, Phishing and Malware.
  2. On the left, select an organizational unit.
  3. Point to Spam and click Configure.
If the setting is already configured, point to the setting and click
    Edit or Add Another.

  4. For a new setting, enter a unique name or description.

  5. Check the Bypass spam filters for messages received from addresses or domains          within these approved senders lists box.

  6. Click Use existing list or Create or edit list to select an existing list, or create a list of                   approved senders. To add a new list:
    • Click Create or Edit list.
    • Scroll to the bottom of Manage address lists and click Add address list.
    • Enter a name for the new list.
    • Click Add address.
    • Enter email addresses or domain names. Use a space or comma between each entry.
    • To receive mail from approved senders that don’t have authentication, turn off Authentication required for each user. This bypasses SPF and DKIM authentication.
    • Click Save to save the new address list.

  7. (Optional) To turn on other spam filter options, check the box next to each option.

  8. At the bottom of the settings page, click Save to save the new spam setting.

It can take up to 24 hours for your changes to take effect.
