Apple Mail Configuration
Your users might want to send and receive mail from other email clients, for example, Microsoft Outlook or Apple Mail. This article has steps for admins and users to set up Gmail with Apple Mail.To sync Gmail with Apple Mail, follow the steps below:
- Turn on the Less-secure app:
A) For the accounts with 2-step verification off
Enable Less Secure Apps:
-> Log in to Gmail.
-> Manage your google account
-> Security
-> Turn on the Less secure app.
B) For the accounts with 2-step verification on
Generate App password:
-> Log in to Gmail.
-> Manage your google account
-> Security > 2-step verification
-> Click on the app password
-> Click on Choose Application option and select mail.
-> Click on choose the device and select the OS, if it is chrome os or any other not
listed os choose the other and enter the os name.
-> Click on Generate
-> Copy the password and use this password while configuring Apple Mail. -
Allow per-user outbound gateways for your domain:
-> From the Admin console Home page, go to Apps > Google Workspace > Gmail >
End User Access.
-> In the Allow per-user outbound gateways section, select Allow users to send mail
through an external SMTP server when configuring a "from" address hosted
outside your email domains.
-> At the bottom, click Save. -
Turn on IMAP
-> Log in to Gmail.
-> In the top right, click Settings > See all settings.
-> Click the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
-> In the IMAP access section, select Enable IMAP.
-> Click Save Changes. -
Update settings in Apple Mail
-> Go to your Apple Mail.
-> Add your Google Workspace email account by first selecting Preferences under the Mail menu.
-> Tap on Accounts and Click the + button to add an account.
-> In the list of providers that appears, choose Google and click Continue.
-> In the pop-up that appears, click Open Browser.
-> Enter your Google Workspace email address in the provided field and click Next. -> Next, enter your email password and click Next. Click Allow. Finally, choose which services you would like to import from your Google Workspace account.
-> Click Done. -
Apple Mail Outgoing (SMTP) Server Settings:
Most of the settings for Google Workspace will be added automatically by Apple Mail, so there's not much more to do for setup. However, if you need to make changes, follow these steps:
-> To start, go to Mail > Preferences.
-> Click the Server Settings tab.
-> Choose Edit SMTP Server List in the drop-down list.
-> Any current SMTP server settings will be listed here.
-> If there are none, you can add one by clicking the + button.
-> Then enter your Username, password, and hostname as smtp.gmail.com.
-> Finally, click on ok.
